Managing Your Family

Your Papercup family lets multiple parents or caregivers manage the same cups together. When you sign up, a family is automatically created and you become the admin. From there, you can invite others to help manage your children's phones.

Inviting family members

  1. Go to Family and tap Invite.
  2. Enter the other person's email address.
  3. They will receive an invite email containing a code to join your family.
  4. The invite code is also shown on screen, so you can share it directly (for example, via text message).

Invites expire after 7 days. You can revoke a pending invite at any time before it is accepted.

Roles

There are two roles within a Papercup family:

  • Admin — Can invite and remove members, transfer the admin role, and manage everything across all cups.
  • Member — Can view and manage cups and their settings (contacts, speed dials, quiet hours, and more), but cannot manage family membership.

There is only one admin at a time.

Transferring admin

If you need to hand over admin responsibilities to someone else:

  1. Go to Family and tap Members.
  2. Select the member you want to promote.
  3. Tap Transfer Admin.

Once transferred, you will be demoted to a regular member and the other person will become the new admin.

Removing a member

Admins can remove any non-admin member from the family. Go to Family, select Members, choose the person, and remove them.

Leaving a family

  • Members can leave the family voluntarily at any time.
  • Admins must transfer the admin role to another member before they can leave.

Setting a preferred locality

You can set your preferred region for new phone number allocation:

  1. Go to Family.
  2. Choose your preferred locality from the available NZ regions.

New phone numbers will be allocated from your chosen region when available.

Good to know

  • All family members can see all cups and manage contacts, speed dials, quiet hours, and other settings.
  • Any changes made by any family member take effect across the family immediately.
